"How to Keep Your Vegan Cool"

I've been dreading dealing with my family when it comes to spending the holidays together. This article gave some great tips on how to "keep your vegan cool".

KEEP YOUR VEGAN COOL

The holidays can be a very challenging time for new vegans – and even longtime vegans, sometimes. It’s a time filled with get-togethers, food, and family. So it can be difficult if you are faced with your first Christmas of bucking the non-vegan trend and trying to live a more compassionate holiday season. Three tips to get you through:
1) You love your family, but you need to be firm. If you don’t want to eat something, don’t eat it. Don’t do something you will regret because you are worried about hurting Great Aunt Milda’s feelings. If you are firm but kind, and keep it understated (ie. don’t start lecturing others – this is not the place) – it’s possible to get through the holidays without compromising your ideals, or hurting your family. Hint: bring delicious vegan food offerings – then you will always be guaranteed to have something to eat and people won’t worry about you and your empty plate.
2) If you have annoying friends/family members who are really bugging you about the change in your lifestyle, walk away. Don’t let them bait you – don’t engage in an argument, not here, not now. Keep your reaction light, and go talk a walk to keep your vegan cool.
3) Be prepared for Christmas parties by going armed with vegan snacks and goodies. Don’t make the mistake of thinking – “there will probably be something there I can eat” – because there may not be. If you bring food, the focus is diffused and it’ll be easier for you to relax and have fun – and share veganism with others in a very positive way!
